How These 5 New-Age Comedians Created Viral Content on TikTok

Ever wonder what it takes to go viral on TikTok? With TikTok now having over 1 billion active monthly users, it may feel like a struggle to make your content stand out from the rest.

In the past 2 years, despite how challenging the times have been, we have also seen how millions of content creators have given us reasons to laugh and smile through their comedic TikTok videos.

But this still begs the question: “What exactly does it take to make comedic content go viral in 2022?”

We studied the TikTok accounts of five Filipino new-age comedians to give you some tips.

#1 ESNYR RANOLLO: TAKE THE EXTRA MILE WHEN CREATING POSTS

Esnyr hooks his audience within seconds, as he goes the extra mile to dress up as different High School characters. He perfectly captures the nostalgia of school life through his TikTok skits.

It’s not an easy task to write scripts, prepare costumes, or edit content. But we see how Esnyr puts in the effort in every single TikTok to produce the most engaging content for his audiences.

When it comes to conceptualizing your content and how much effort to put into creating it, remember that the effort should always come from being true to your brand values and consistent with your brand voice.

PRO-TIP:  When conceptualizing content, remember to create an experience that is consistent with your brand values and targeted to the right audience.

#2 MACOY DUBS: MAKE SURE YOUR CONTENT IS EASY TO DIGEST

Macoy Dubs went viral in 2020 by posting videos as his alter ego "Auntie Julie."

He quickly attracted audiences as they could easily relate to having (or wanting) an aunt like Auntie Julie who is outspoken, loves to dress up in her favorite pearls, enjoys partying, eating in Mary Grace, and is up to date with the latest trends and gossip.

Through Auntie Julie’s persona, Macoy Dubs shows that he understands his content buckets and his target audience.

Reach and engagement are not always linear, especially when you want to try a new type of content. But having these content buckets established for your brand allows you to compare which types of content work best for your audience, and which ones do not perform as well.

PRO-TIP: Make sure to identify your content buckets when creating content. This will help provide insights for what works and what doesn’t work for your business. For new businesses or businesses that have trouble finding consistent results, this will also help you establish a clearer brand book with brand guidelines to follow in the future.

#3 RAIN MATIENZO: SIMPLE IDEA, BIG IMPACT: CREATING A MEMORABLE AND IDENTIFIABLE CHARACTER

What started out as a simple video of sharing her desire to become a “Trophy Wife” one day, Rain Matienzo became a TikTok sensation through her spot on portrayal of a stereotypical Trophy Wife.

This idea was not only entertaining to TikTokers, but also memorable to them, as Rain was able to create an original, identifiable character that created a big impact on thousands of TikTok users and content creators. To date, more content creators have hopped on her idea to now create the Trophy Wife Multiverse.

PRO-TIP: List down how you want to create memorable and engaging content to positively impact your audience. Ask yourself what it is that you want them to feel and do after consuming your content?

#4 GIGIBOY JOSE: BEING TRANSPARENT WITH YOUR AUDIENCES - IN A TASTEFUL WAY

Gigiboy pokes fun at himself and his college experiences through his POV TikTok skits. His viewers can't get enough of his hilarious portrayals as different characters such as the prof, the mema or conyo classmate.

The personas he shows through his TikToks are some of the real and so-called “annoying” people that Gigiboy and his viewers have encountered throughout their college experience.

Gigiboy’s audience can’t help but love how he is able to be transparent and share his unfiltered experiences in a tasteful and humorous way.

PRO-TIP: Remember that when you plan out your captions, in-art copies or scripts for video marketing, you can share real stories in a tasteful, non-tone-deaf way

#5 SASSA GURL: SHARING REAL AND COMMON EXPERIENCES

Sassa Gurl is all about being true to herself as she features her personal yet humorous take on Filipino culture, which her viewers easily relate to.

In a recent study, there has been an increase in consumers looking for more authentic and relatable content. Sassa Gurl keeps up with this trend as she stays true to creating only the most authentic content that is inspired by her real experiences, mostly from her teenage years.

From her POV skits of dealing with strict parents, adjusting to the climate in the Philippines, school life, down to more pressing topics such as politics and LGBTQ+, Sassa Gurl shares truthful and authentic stories that are not only relatable to her audience, but are also relevant to them and the times we are living in.

PRO-TIP: Don’t be afraid to diversify your content. Staying relevant and relatable to your audience through your messaging is important in creating your content plan for your business.
