5 Viral Campaigns to Inspire You this Holiday Season (2021)

We are counting down to the most wonderful time of the year. Aside from the tinsel that will soon take over the whole town, we take a look at the stories that make this season special.

From utilizing Christmas idols to touching our hearts, here are five campaigns in the Philippines that delivered on heartwarming messaging and virality:

1. PASKO NA SA SHOPEE! (SHOPEE PHILIPPINES)

Retail giant Shopee took Christmas by the reins by partnering with the country’s most beloved idol of the season.

Their endorser throughout the whole campaign was none other than Jose Mari Chan, the crooner very well known for his hit “Christmas In Our Hearts.”

As early as mid-November, their Christmas jingle “Shopee Christmas Sale” filled the airwaves. This also pushed more people to purchase during their annual 12.12 sale and to go shopping for Christmas gifts outside of that.

In 2021, they decided to up the ante and collaborate with action star Jackie Chan for their 11.11 Christmas Sale which began on October 25.

2. “BRO, ANG STAR NG PASKO” (ABS CBN)

While their Christmas songs always hit home, they still do not compare to their 2009 release. What made this one really heartwarming was that this was one of many hopeful responses to Typhoon Ondoy.

Said to be the second-most devastating storm to ever hit the country, it caused 261 fatalities, 394 injuries, and damaged over 60,000 buildings.

So in the spirit of hope, they dedicated this to the victims of the typhoon, and the messaging is crystal clear: Have faith when things go awry because the light only comes from one Source.

Their performance currently has 44 million views, with their 2015 hit “Thank You For The Love” coming in at 35M. The latter featured three of the country’s top love teams bringing about Christmas joy.

3. “THE LAST CUSTOMER” (COCA-COLA)

What makes Christmas extra heartwarming is it’s also a time of thanksgiving. It is a time of giving thanks for a great year, reflecting on what’s to come, and to celebrate with the people you love.

But in this short film by softdrink brand Coca Cola, they shine the spotlight on those who cannot celebrate Christmas normally.

They are the essential workers -- those who have no opportunities to celebrate the holidays because their schedule is built for making sure our holidays turn out amazing.

From the grocery staff who ensure you can shop for your goods to the restaurant employees who enhance your holiday meal experience, this was a fitting tribute.

4. “SARAP KASAMA ANG PAMILYA” (JOLLIBEE)

Jollibee takes moment marketing to heart and pens a campaign story rooted within the most basic unit: family. Due to the uncertain times brought about by the pandemic, the short film tells the story of being grateful for our loved ones.

Directed by award-winning Filipino director Pepe Diokno, the film garnered over 30M views on YouTube to date.

5. “SARAP UMUWI” (SELECTA)

It is nostalgia at its finest with none other than Selecta’s endorser, the Megastar Sharon Cuneta.

When she was served ice cream as a young child, she brings it home now as a mother to her children. Paying it forward, we can say so ourselves.
